How to Develop a Successful Employee Training Program

It is always a challenge to provide fresh new ideas in your employee training program. Developing interesting and informative content while covering off industry best practices and trends can help bring your training program to the next level.
When developing an employee training program, delegate different sections of the employee training to various supervisory people in your company. This will enable the audience to be able to listen to a variety of voices. Empower all supervisory staff to play a role in the training process. After all, employee training doesn’t stop after the one or two days of orientation; management, supervisors and staff are continually acquiring wisdom throughout their normal daily routines.
Here are some ideas on how to develop a successful
employee training session:
- Introduction: Introduce everyone and yourself to the group and outline the training objectives using documentation.
- Explanation: Cover any information trainees need to understand and use the appropriate audio-visual aid necessary.
- Demonstration: Explain procedures slowly in detail and don’t forget to ask for questions.
- Practice: Observe each trainee doing the job and provide feedback for improvement and acknowledge success.
- Conclusion: Recap main points, question trainees for understanding and check back with objectives.
- Preparation: Design presentation plan, gather documentation for each trainee and check out all audio-visual equipment needed.
- Recognition or Praising: Be sincere and praise each trainee for what they did well.
- Feedback for Improvement: Explain the areas that are being done well and explain how performance could be improved and ask for compliance.
It is also important to have a good training objective. For example, always start with “At the end of this session you will be able to…” – this automatically focuses on their learning rather than your teaching.
